In this project, we showcase a complete restoration of BMW X5 alloy wheels that arrived at our workshop in worn condition. Using professional equipment and proven technologies, we fully restored both their appearance and functionality.

Stage 1. What condition were the wheels in?
The wheels were in poor technical and visual condition. The surface showed corrosion, numerous scratches, and coating damage. The surface was uneven, affecting not only the appearance but also the durability of the wheels.
Further use in this condition could have led to even more severe damage.

Stage 2 – Cleaning and preliminary CNC machining
After initial straightening, the wheels were thoroughly stripped of the old paint coating. They then underwent preliminary CNC machining, allowing us to accurately assess the extent of surface damage.
At this stage, all imperfections on the wheel face and rim edge were identified, making it possible to determine the scope of further work, select the optimal repair method, and ensure perfect final finishing quality.

Key stages of restoration
Stage 3 – Damage restoration using cold spray technology
At the next stage, the missing wheel material was restored using cold spray technology at a controlled temperature.
The main advantage of this method compared to TIG welding is the absence of metal overheating. This preserves the original aluminum structure and eliminates the risk of material weakening or wheel deformation.
Stage 4 – Final CNC machining, sanding, and paint preparation
After restoration, the wheels were machined again on a CNC lathe to achieve perfectly uniform surface geometry.
Excess material remaining after restoration was carefully removed, and the surface was hand-sanded to smooth all transitions and fine details.
At the final stage of preparation, a primer coat was applied to eliminate any remaining micro-imperfections, perfect the surface, and prepare the wheel for painting.
Stage 5 – Priming and application of the base coat
An additional primer layer was applied to achieve a perfectly smooth and uniform surface.
After preparation, the wheels were painted in BMW Orbit Grey. The coating was applied with precise control of layer thickness and consistency, ensuring a flawless appearance, accurate color matching, and long-lasting durability.
Stage 6 – Surface correction, repainting, and final CNC machining
Following quality inspection, even the smallest surface defects were identified and removed. The wheels underwent additional sanding to achieve a flawless finish without any imperfections.
An additional base coat was then applied, followed by final CNC machining. At this stage, the final design of the wheel face was created and the surface was perfectly prepared for the application of a clear protective lacquer.
Stage 7 – Clear coat application and curing
Final result after the application of the clear coat. Visually, the wheels are indistinguishable from new factory-finished examples — the original appearance, color depth, and the manufacturer’s characteristic precision of finish have been fully preserved. A professionally performed restoration restores the wheels’ aesthetic appearance and functional properties, bringing them as close as possible to factory condition.
